    Ski Cooper Lodging???

Can anyone recommend a decent inexpensive place to stay in Leadville?

    Any suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks

    Eric

    Haven't really found any.

It's only a little over a half hour from Frisco.

    Thanks Lars,

I found a few spots for around 60 bucks, that should work. When my grandfather immigrated from Sweden he went to the mines in Leadville so I hope to stay there and see if I can find any evidence of his being there.

Sorry I couldn't help. I always stay in Frisco. Got stuck in Leadville once.

But, Ski cooper is a great change of pace ski area and has some nice terrain and no people. Got to say the Cat Skiing at Chicago Ridge is awesome if the snow is right. I like places like that. I like Eldora too. Another nice little place.

You may have helped more than you know. The "stuck in Leadville" combined with the "only a little over a half hour from Frisco" gives me something to think about. Thanks.

snofan, this trip to Ski Cooper doesn't have anything to do with a downhill race, does it?

Good luck finding info about your Grandfather

    Hi Little Tiger,

Yes, I plan to race at Cooper on the 14th of Jan. I saw MR's videos of the course and it looks like lots of fun.

I never met my Grandfather and my Father has passed away so I do not have much to go on but am hopeful I can find something out. Thanks for wishing me luck.

At one time we had a Villa in West Leadvegas, sold in 2010 (bad move on my part) anyhow, motels, none I rate above 3*

Super 8 0n the southside of town, (just another Super 8)
    The Alps, (old school)
    Silver King (Breakfest included w/stay)
Columbine Inn (right across the st. from Silver Queen)

Have stayed in all the above, coin toss between Silver King & Columbine, breakfest wins most of the time. All of the above average at best. They will try & get $100-$120 a night if you don't plan ahead. Same room in Denver would be a $70 room at best. I know I have gotten a room for $80 or less at all the above.

There is also Grand West Village, never stayed there but drove by many a time, my guess is it's not cheap!

Also have met the guy that runs the Leadville Hostel, never stayed there but seems like a good guy, http://www.leadvillehostel.com/home.htm

Will give the run down on places to eat next...

    For eats,

High Mt Pies (pizza & More) limited seating, best to take out, Very Good food!
The Grill (mexican) good food off main st a few blocks not the best Mex we have ever had, but we go back because it's above good!
    Zichittellas( Eyetalin food) Good Meal
    Golden Burro (Good Breakfest)
Proven Grounds (coffee Shop, might be the only coffee shop) not bad!

Caution, stay away from the Chinese, never had luck at that place!
If we get more snow, when we take the sleds up we try & stay overnight, never know might be able to meet for Tea?
